Tell people if they are worth more than what they think

A Service Design Principle for fairer wages.

Imagine this. You are in a job interview. Now comes the critical moment when the hiring manager asks you: "What's the salary you are looking for?" you give your number, and the person answers:

That's 50% lower than where it should be based on your experience.

Sounds like a dream, right? Nobody in their right mind wouldn't use that opportunity to pay the new hire less.

But that dream is slowly starting to be a reality. Hiring managers like Fahad Khawaja take this idea to heart.

They make it normal to tell candidates when their salary ask is significantly below the market rate.

Action question

How can you help people better understand their true value instead of profiting from their lack of knowledge about their true value?

Daniele's note

This is a first draft of a principle that might end up in a book of the "Service Design Principles" series.
