The Antarctic ozone hole is recovering: The Antarctic ozone hole has been smaller then ever since 1990 in 2025. The WMO credits this recovery to the 1987 Montreal Protocol's ban on ozone-damaging chemicals like CFCs, and expects the ozone layer to fully recover within a few decades. (Good News and Bluewin)
England fights to save the turtle dove from extinction: With a 98 percent decline, the turtle dove is among the most endangered bird species in the United Kingdom. To prevent the complete extinction of the iconic holiday bird, conservationists in South Downs National Park have reintroduced the first 30 birds into the wild—with 100 more set to follow next year. Successful reintroduction of orangutans in Sumatra: 15 years ago, not a single orangutan lived in the Jantho Nature Reserve in Sumatra. Today, thanks to the Sumatran Orangutan Conservation Programme, a new wild population of around 200 rescued animals thrives there. (Good News and Mongabay)
