Swiss Service Design Week, Day and Student Award

The Swiss Service Design Network is busy finishing all the preparations for a big series of events around a Service Design Week that includes:

• 6 days with each day a lightning talk of 30 minutes, with 3 insights and 3 community questions answered.

• 1 day of mini-conference in Bern limited to 30 people to keep it like a family-reunion. Want to join, now is the time to save your seat.

• An award for Service Design Student projects done in Switzerland. The deadline to apply is Sunday 25th of May.

As you'll see the paint is still fresh and we're putting the finishing touches to the events.

Why we are making this

The Swiss Service Design work has two goals:

• Put Service Design on the map of Switzerland

• Put Switzerland on the map of Service Design

With this series of events we hope that we can make progress on these two goals while:

• Creating moments where Service Design professionals meet

• Sharing new insights and learnings that help Service Design professionals be stronger in their work

Why we have changed the format

Last year we organized a one day hybrid conference with hundreds of people online and 30 people on site in the middle of the alps. This year we wanted to still get the chance to meet the wider community remotely and to have deeper personal moments on-site. But making it hybrid meant a lot of logistical issues and it felt at times to much pushed towards the remote folks which didn't make for the best on-site experience.

So we decided to split things for this year. A series of short events during the week that are accessible to all world wide and that are exclusively remote.

And one day that is exclusively on-site. Without recording, without live transmission. Just being fully present together like a proper family reunion and not one that gets live streamed to hundreds of people.

Souvenirs from my last Service Design class of this academic year

These are some numbers and souvenirs of an afternoon workshop around Organizational Transformation and Participation between the Salvation Army Switzerland, Austria and Hungary and the Master Service Design learners of the HSLU, Lucerne University of Applied Sciences and Arts.

Thanks to Heidi and Daniel Imboden from the Salvation Army for the real challenge that they gave to the learners of the Master Service Design.

How to create a storyboard without drawing?

Storyboarding is a strong tool. But what to do when you can't draw?

• Learn to sketch: for example by using the bikablo technic

• Use a library of illustrations you can mix and match like SAP Scenes, this Miro Template or these sketches I've created

• Or use a tool that does it for you: like an AI image generation tool.
