Positive news from elsewhere

I’m an optimist and as there is so much bad news out there at the moment, I want at my scale to rebalance things by sharing also some positive news for service owners and creators.

Florida safeguards state parks: Florida has enacted the State Park Preservation Act, protecting all 175 state parks from commercial development including hotels and golf courses. The bipartisan legislation, effective July 2025, requires future developments to be conservation-minded. (UPI via Wren)
NYC’s vehicle fleet is 75% green: A local law requires New York City to transition its fleet of light and medium-duty vehicles to electric by 2035. Its trucks must be electric by 2038. Currently, more than 75% of municipal vehicles – or about 21,500 – are either hybrid, electric or running on renewable biofuel, city officials said. (Gothamist via Wren)
Scotland proposes ecocide bill: Scotland is poised to become the first UK nation to criminalise ecocide – severe and reckless harm to nature – under a new bill published in the Scottish parliament. (Positive News)
