Be like a good neighbor not like a good accountant
In short: Helping others without keeping score creates a cycle of generosity and support.
Help Without Counting
If a friend needs help, offer it. If a friend needs a few bucks, give it to them. If you're out eating with someone, pick up the tab. Help others and give without keeping track.
Forget What You Gave
Make an effort to forget what you gave so you can always give more without feeling like you're losing or the other person is winning. Because in the end, being helpful attracts other helpful people who will support you.
Know When to Walk Away
Of course, if people treat you badly, leave them behind. Being generous doesn't mean being stupid and giving to people that will hurt you. You can be generous and still avoid those who hurt you.
