Do what you don’t want to do

Jeremy Ferrari is a French comedian and ex-drug addict who has some strange advice for us (1):

Do what you don't want to do.

For someone like him who was an addict doing what he would like to do makes things worse: drink more and get wasted.
But if he does what he doesn't want to do: exercise, go to bed early, eat healthy, stop unhealthy relationships, and don't party, he gets to a much better place.

In fact, often, when we fear something, it’s usually an indicator of something not easy but that deeply in ourselves we know we need to do.

Action question

What's one thing that you don't want to do at work, that scares you or feel uncomfortable? Could doing this thing help you better serve others?

Daniele's note

This is a first draft of a principle that might end up in a book of the "Service Design Principles" series.
