Do the Deathbed Test

An illustration of a family with grand parents and a kid on the shoulders of his grand father

Picture this scene from the future: you’re on your deathbed. Your grandkids and great-grandkids are right there, holding your hands. They ask you to tell the story of the thing you're deciding on (now in the present). What’s the story that’ll make them proud? What’s the story where they look at you and think, Wow, I’m so proud we have someone like that in our family?

I love using this coaching question and technic to help people get out of their heads and away from the present stress.

If your decisions lead to your imaginiry future generations finding the story of your choice beautiful, courageous, or impressive, then chances are it’s a pretty fucking good decision.

Action Question

Where could you implement the deathbed question? In your own life or work?
