Co-creation chat with Guy Martin

A conversation where we explore a new service design principle based on a personal story from Guy Martin.


Guy Martin, a member of the community shared this photo and lovely story:

"I recently came across this cool idea from a butcher in Denmark.  My wife loves lamb but it’s not so common in Denmark. We took a trip to this butcher and bought a few items.  The receipt included the recommended storage time for the items (“holdbar min.”) and also how to best prepare each item.

I thought this was a great service - it helps those unfamiliar with the product, without insulting those that are, and instead of having to add labels to every item every day with expiry dates, puts it in one place."

To start the ping-pong "co-creation" here a few titles suggestions for the service design principle that might be behind your experience. I always like to start with a title that summarizes the key idea. I often write this title with an action verb and as if it was an advice that a customer would give to me. So here we are:

  1. "Make the receipt smarter": here we would explore how something as old as a receipt can have smart information other than the transactions elements.
  2. "Put the information in the paper I already have": here we could explore the idea that instead of giving an additional brochure, it's smart to put the information in the papers or documents that we already own or have to give.
  3. "Help the newbies without slowing the pros": this is something that I took from your text, which I found especially interesting. I think if we go in this direction you should give me a bit more context about why you find this particular receipt goes in that direction. Maybe this one is a bit too general, not sure yet.

As you see these titles are all inspired by your story, but each with a slightly different angle. 

So might I ask: 
Which one of these titles is nearer to your personal experience? And from there what's the ideas that you would like to add to it?

Hey Guy,
good news I made progress on one of the Principles that was inspired by the story you shared :)
I made a new post just for that Principle so it's easier to track the changes I'll make to that principle in the future.
