What Are the Different Levels of Implications for Decision Makers in a Design Sprint?

Level 1: Full Participant

In an ideal world, the decision maker is fully present during the whole the design sprint. They act like any other participant but have special rights, such as a super vote during decision-making moments. They follow the entire process.

Level 2: Specific Moments Participant

Sometimes, the decision maker only joins for key moments, maybe for 20 minutes or an hour. This works well if the design sprint is at their usual workplace or done remotely and you can bring them easily onbaord. But, it’s more difficult when you're doing it in a location which isn't the one of the decision maker.

Level 3: Decision Maker Feedback Moments

Here, the decision maker doesn't join the exercises but participates in short sessions maybe twice a day or so to give feedback and make crucial decisions. These sessions are often remote, short and serve as: stop or go moments.

I obviously prefer having at least one key decision maker fully involved, but sometimes we just have to make with what's possible.
