Crowd sourcing

Crowd sourcing

Another  ideation setting is the use of a bigger group, or what some would call crowd sourcing.

"Crowdsourcing is a sourcing model in which individuals or organizations obtain goods and services, including ideas and finances, from a large, relatively open and often rapidly-evolving group of internet users; it divides work between participants to achieve a cumulative result" - Wikipedia

Here instead of having a small group of people generating ideas you have hundreds or thousands of people generating ideas. This model is basically using elements of asynchronous and remote ideation. You will not have thousands of people meeting live in a stadium to generate ideas. Even if that could be pretty fun.

Okay. So now you saw that ideation can happen in small groups, alone, at distance, at different times and even with thousands of people. The goal of this overview was just to show you that the group setting where everybody meets in the same room is only one of the possibilities and that diversity in the settings can also bring different ideas. So test out different settings.
