How a good old RSS reader helped me watch less Youtube

The problem
Lately I've noticed I spent too much time on Youtube. I also noticed that I spent time watching content that in fact I didn't want to know about at first. Youtube these days doesn't show you the videos of the people you subscribed too, but rather the videos it thinks you'd like to watch.
A solution
So I tried something new which in fact is pretty old school. Going back to a good old RSS reader.
An RSS reader is an app where you can add feeds from the blogs, magazines, websites that you love and have it all in just one app chronologically without a system putting stuff in it that you didn't ask for.
Why I use Reeder Classic
The one that I ended up using is Reeder Classic because it allows me:
To get the news from the websites I like (for example TheVerge or Positive.news), including a pretty good reader mode without distractions.
To get the newest Youtube videos from the creators I really want to follow.
To not get anything else.
And to mark things as read quickly with just a swipe if I'm not interested to read or watch it, and it disappears.
Why I'm not using the newest version of the app
I've tried the newest version of Reeder, but the fact that I can't mark things as read and that everything stays in the timeline doesn't help me to arrive in the app and see: nothing to read, do something else.
The classic version of Reeder is a one time purchase of about 6 bucks and it works well on iPhone and Mac.
After a few weeks of using this new setup I've really reduced the numbers of videos I'm watching that I didn't really want to watch.
It' also brings a pretty great feeling when you go to the app and there is nothing to read, it's refreshing to not be in a world of infinite everything always.
