Why do I shot videos with headphones?

In this tiny article I share the two reasons why I listen to music when recording videos.

Someone on asked me on Linkedin why I have both a mic and my headphones on when I record videos.

This can feel especially weird because most headphones have a mic, so why have an extra mic too?

Because I listen to music

When I record videos on my own I really like having music in my ears. And the sound quality of a proper mic is much better than the microphone of your headphones.

But why do you listen to music?

Shooting a video consists of making tons of mistake, and saying again and again the same sentence until you get it "right enough". So it can be a pretty boring process.

Plus being alone in your flat speaking to a webcam is also something quite weird.

I've noticed that by having headphones on when I record:

  • I enjoy the process much more

  • I tend to speak louder, which is also good for the sound quality

What music are you listening while recording?

Usually, I listen just to one song, so that it is motivating enough, but not distracting. It can sound weird if you don't know that I can listen to the same song for a whole day in repeat mode.

For example, for one of my latest shooting sessions I listened to this song in repeat mode:
