Okay, I have teased you for some time now. But I find it interesting before jumping into a definition of Service Design, to first look at the words that compose the term, separately.

Now, let’s bring the definitions of the words “service” and “design” together and see what happens.

We have said that a service is basically the interaction between you and a company. Design is the art of conceiving, planning, and creating.

So, Service Design is essentially the art of planning or creating interactions between humans and organizations.

That’s it. Quite simple, when you already have the words separately defined.

I often translate this definition in layman terms as the following:

Service Design helps organizations understand why people are so pissed about them and then fixes the problem.
