What you'll learn in this course

Hi there, I’m Daniele 👋 and I’ll be your host for this course, “What is Service Design?”

I’m a service designer and innovation coach. You’ll soon discover I am quite passionate, some may even say obsessed, with service design! That’s why I have created this course, to share with you a few elements of this passion.

What you’ll learn:

This course is composed of 7 chapters that provide an overview of what Service Design is. You’ll discover the following:

  1. What Service Design is

  2. Where it comes from

  3. What Service Designers do

  4. What the impact of Service Design is for a business

  5. The tools and methods of Service Design

  6. The special terms used by Service Designers

  7. People who practice Service Design

What type, of course, is this?

I consider this course a map to be shared about the little town of Service Design. This map doesn’t provide all the details, but it helps you know where to go to enjoy specific moments. If you want to know about the history, there is a spot for that. If you want to know more about the people who made service design happen, there is a spot for that. If you are into the tools, there is a spot for that. As a map, this course can be used to return and find a starting point over in the discovery of a particular subject about the Service Design town.

This fancy, poetic course description implies that this course is not like a toolbox. You can’t just open it, take a tool, and get started. No. Furthermore, this course is not a step-by-step guide. You can’t open it and start to improve your service by following its procedure. It’s just a simple introduction that tries to answer the question: What is Service Design?
