According to our good friends at Wikipedia, it is as follows:
Experience design [often abbreviated XD] is the practice of designing products, processes, services, events, omnichannel journeys, and environments with a focus placed on the quality of the user experience and culturally relevant solutions.
There are a lot of fancy words in that definition. Okay, when you hear that definition you might think: hmmm, how is this different from Service Design? I have to admit I personally never really understood the difference between these two fields. I see Experience Design as playing on a philosophical idea. XD wants to put emphasis on the experience. However, I think service designers do the same.
That’s why I like to call Experience Design the Service Design twin. They are so similar, I can’t always take them apart. But still, both exist! And by giving you the name of this field, I just want to equip you with another term you can Google when looking for tools or ideas to make your users’ lives easier.
