Ask AI: Why I'm trying to create a specialized AI in Service Design

In this tiny article, I want to share the reasons why I'm investing time, money and energy in prototyping a specialised AI chat interface that can answer Service Design related questions.

The problem

For years, I've been creating a ton of content for two reasons. First, it helps me revise and fix my ideas and thoughts while teaching me something new. Second, I want to share my passion and make service design more accessible.

However, over the years, the content has become scattered, and it isn't easy for people to get an answer to their specific questions. People have to figure out which course, book, or database they need to use to find the answer.

And that sucks.

The early experiments

Recently, I've been experimenting with AI to make content creation and access more accessible. I created a prototype called "Ask AI," which can help anyone get answers to their service design-related questions. It's still a prototype and doesn't have all the data I'd like it to have.

The idea is that people can just ask a question, and the AI will look through all my content and make a bit of a summary based on the question.

This is a new way to interact with the content I've created instead of having to search or explore it. The AI not only answers the question but also cites the pieces of content used to make the answer.

I'm excited to see if this way of interacting with my services and content is useful for people who are learning Service Design or want to improve their skills.

What's in this Service Design AI prototype?

For now, I've created a first prototype, which doesn't contain all my content, but a good selection of books, like a complete history and introduction to Service Design, and a book on the mindset of the service designer. I've also added an article that has many references on how to learn Service Design in the training data.

What's not in this Service Design AI prototype?

I didn't include the 200+ Service Design questions and answers as this would have needed a higher and more expensive tear of the tool SiteGPT I'm using to create the AI.

These are early explorations of how I can use AI to make the lives of the people that learn with me a little bit easier. In the past, I've used AI to make my life as someone who creates content a little bit easier.

The feedback from people using it will show this is useful or not.
