What's the state of Service Design in Finland?

Pamela Spokes and some other fine folks from the Service Design Network Finland Chapter have created a document which is called the state of Service Design in Finland, 2023.

I've selected a few graphs that I find, especially interesting that you can find in this report.

Gender distribution

The first graph is the gender distribution.

What we see here is that ladies are definitely very strong in Service Design in Finland.

What languages do finish service designers speak?

You might ask yourself if I want to go work in Finland as a service designer, do I need to know finish?

What we can see in the data is that most of the practicing service designers in Finland speak both Finnish and English. And only a fraction speak only English. But also only a fraction speaks only finish.

So with that, we could say that it's pretty smart to be able to speak both English and Finish to get a job as a service designer in Finland.

How finish Service Design practitioners learned Service Design?

Something that feels a bit different about Finland than other countries, at least in my perception, is that a lot of Service Design practitioners in Finland have a formal Service Design education. Hey, but don't get scared. Obviously still a lot of people learn Service Design on the job or are self-taught.

Where to practice Service Design in Finland?

And if you're thinking about relocating to Finland to get a Service Design job, you might ask:

In which cities or regions should I go?

Interestingly, 82% of the service designers who were asked in that survey come from the same region. That region is called Uusimaa. Sorry, I'm not Finish myself, so I said it in a very creative way. I'm sure.

That's the region where you find Helsinki, Espoo and Vantaa.

Service Design education is huge in Finland

It's said in the report that Finland is one of the pioneers in the field of Service Design.

And we can see that in the education part.

There are more than 30 programs in Finland that have Service Design as part of their studies. Which really is a lot!
