Importance: How important is it to have a Service Design portfolio?

Contrary to what I though not every company asks to see a portfolio when you apply as a service designer. In the Service Desifn Career Track report it was found that:
“Just over half (53%) of the service designer applying for a job needed to show a portfolio.”
